ABOUT NEAL PURCHASE JNR

I craft surfboards with purpose—low-production, high-quality custom shapes designed for performance and longevity. Based in Northern NSW, Australia, my focus is on building boards that feel intuitive underfoot, offering speed, drive, and maneuverability while maintaining a user-friendly flow.

Surfing has been a part of my life since childhood, thanks to my father, who not only introduced me to the ocean but also shared his deep knowledge of surfboard design. Shaping began as a natural extension of that legacy, but over time, it became a passion in its own right. I wanted to create boards that aligned with my own criteria—something that could be pushed hard while still maintaining a level of ease and fluidity.

Neal Purchase Designs is a small, family-run business that I operate alongside my wife, Beau. Every step of the process is done locally, supporting Australian craftsmanship. The lamination is handled by Taka and his team at Sunglassing in Currumbin, fins are shaped to my exact curves and templates by Steve and Tracey at Australian Fin Co, and I rely on Burford Blanks for their high-quality, long-lasting foam. This approach ensures each board is built with the highest standards while keeping the craft close to home.

For me, shaping isn’t about mass production—it’s about refining the art of surfboard design and creating boards that truly connect with the rider and the waves.
